Questions and Answers: 1. What materials will the Fiber Laser Marking System be used to mark? (i.e. Steel, Ceramics, Titanium)? Answer: Steel (any grade and hardness), Wood, Plastic, Metal, Titanium. 2. In item 4 the RFQ specifies Laser Graft32 software. I believe you mean LaserGraf? Can we offer a comparable software package? Answer: The operating software must provide like capabilities. 3. Do you encourage us to offer any alternative systems for consideration? We have supplied Northrop Grumman a laser marking system for marking tooling for F-18 and Joint Strike Fighter programs that we would like to offer the Navy as an alternative for your consideration. Answer: The specifications are advertised. Alternative systems may be proposed. 4. In the spec below you use "?" in item 3, 6 and 7. Do you mean the inch sign of " ? Answer: The website this solicitation is advertised on automatically changes all inch signs to question marks. 5. The RFP designates a 50?X24? tooling plate but only 24?X24? X/Y movement, what is the maximum X & Y dimensions that your customer needs to mark? Answer: Requirement is for a flat area ? 50? by 24? with a 24? x 24? X/Y movement area as stated. The 24? x 24? will be in the middle to allow long items to be marked. 6. Is there a required hole pattern and tapped hole sizes required on the tooling plate? Answer: No. 7. Is any fixturing in addition to the tooling plate required? Answer: No. 8. What will be marked? Answer: Tools and metals of various sizes. 9. Will 24?X24? X/Y movement be necessary to mark a single tool/part or will it be used to mark a nest of smaller tools/parts? Answer: The operating software will need to support both. 10. LaserGraft32 is not an industry standard software package, can you tell me the vendor so that I can determine the equivalence of our software? Answer: The operating software needs to provide like capabilities. 11. Will a digital dial type of readout on the Z-axis be sufficient? Answer: X,Y, and Z read outs should be on the monitor and all digital with options as to inches in decimal or fractions. 12. Is this a request for a tabletop system or is a stand-alone workstation preferred? Answer: The system will be stand-alone and will not attach to the command?s LAN. 13. What is the intended use for the system? Answer: The intended use is to mark tools for tool boxes with in the DEPOT. This is part of our lost or missing tool prevention program. The marking of this material can be most any material. 14. Describe what is meant by IUID/UID Capability? Answer: IUID is the new Navy system to mark specific material with a ID number. The laser must have the capability to make IUID labels with the IUID coding on it, this must be verified, prior to purchase. 15. Will UII?s need to be submit to the IUID registry? Answer: The vendor will not have to worry on this issue. It will be the individual commands responsibility to register the items to the IUID registry. Thus stated the FRCSE will have to submit the IUID and related data to the registry. 16. Does IUID/UID Capability take in reference to UID as outlined in past or current versions of MilStd 130? Answer: MilStd 130 does not apply to this purchase.
