Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service in Albany, California has a requirement for a mobile infrared heating unit for processing fruits and vegetables. The unit design must allow it to be used for multi-purposes of processing fruits and vegetables; and on wheels for easy mobility. This unit will be used for demonstrating new processing methods of dry-blanching, drying and other related processes of fruits and vegetables. Unit shall include complete catalytic infrared heating system with at least 8 emitters having a dimension of 24x60 for each emitter, gas trains, a control system, stainless steel conveyer, and fans for air removal from the drying chamber. The heating system shall include two heating zones with total 75 square foot heating area that is controlled separately. The emitters must be arranged so as to heat products from both the top and bottom sides. The control system includes control panels and advanced microprocessors for critical temperature control to achieve desired product or emitter temperatures. The conveyer must provide function of turning food products during the processes and handles product sizes as small as 3/8 inches. The absorption spectrum for organic compounds and water should range from 3-10 microns in the IR spectrum; the absorption peaks of water should be 3.0, 4.5, and 6.0 microns; the catalytic heaters must have an emission spectrum of 3-7 microns which closely matches that of water and organic fruits and vegetables. The emitters and related heating system must be compatible with an existing Pilot Scale Infrared Heating System manufactured by Catalytic Industrial Group which delivers the infrared energy in desired wavelengths for processing fruits and vegetables. The Government intends to negotiate with the only known responsible source, Catalytic Industrial Group Inc / Catalytic Industrial Systems in order to maintain equipment compatibility and research consistency. A solicitation is not available for this notice. Interested firms are encouraged to contact Clarice Dixson at cdixson@pw.usda.gov or 510-559-6027 and submit proposals with descriptive literature of equipment to US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Western Regional Research Center, 800 Buchanan Street, Albany, California 94710-1105.
