Description
This is not a request for proposals. The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is seeking sources to analyze our audiometric monitoring data; capture health data from MSHA medical files pertaining to hearing loss and create a pilot computerization of the information for MSHA; they will design and administer a trial of technologically advanced hearing protective devices; assess components of MSHA?s hearing conservation program; evaluate pre-placement medical standards of inspectors; evaluate occupational and non-occupational noise exposures for mine inspectors; evaluate the current policies and procedures for evaluating and processing hearing loss claims; and develop recommendations for possible modifications in current policies and procedures. The Minimum Vendor Qualifications are: The principal investigator of this study and their organization must: ? Be recognized experts in the field of occupational medicine, with strong educational background in hearing conservation and a research record that includes noise-induced hearing loss and hearing conservation; ? Have a history of grants or contracts in the field of noise-induced hearing loss; ? Have a publication record with articles or chapters in peer-reviewed scientific literature on noise-induced hearing loss and hearing conservation; ? Have a presentation record on noise-induced hearing loss and hearing conservation programs; ? Have published papers and posters at scientific meetings; and ? Have membership in a professional organization such as Council for Accreditation of Occupational Hearing Conservation or the National Hearing Conservation Association. An organization interested in responding must have field experience accounting for the effects on hearing from exposures to noise frequencies associated with diesel and electric-powered industrial equipment such as pneumatic drills, ball and rod mills, and primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing. They must also have experience with hearing loss and clinical measurements such as blood pressure and body-mass indices as well as long-term surveillance of a noise-exposed workforce. A responding organization must also have experience accounting for hearing loss from chemical and metal exposures, such as organic solvents, lead, or mercury. All interested parties who meet the above minimum requirements are requested to respond to this notice by 3:00PM EDT. Wednesday September 12, 2007. Responses shall include company information as well as addressing the ability of the vendor to meet the minimum qualifications.
