- This synopsis for the purchase of commercial equipment is issued by DITCO-Alaska Procurement Branch 10441 Kuter Ave, Suite 209 Elmendorf AFB, AK 99506. The equipment to be purchased is: a. 2 each FITEL S177A-02 Series Core-Alignment Fusion Splicer Kits b. 2 each FITEL S177 Connector Termination Add-On Kits c. 100 each Seikoh Giken SC/UPC Splice-On-Connectors, 900um d. 100 each Seikoh Giken SC/UPC Splice-On-Connectors, 3mm e. 100 each Seikoh Giken SC/UPC Splice-On-Connectors, 2mm BRAND NAME JUSTIFICATION Requiring Activity: DISA-PAC Transmission Networks Division (PC4) This equipment and hardware will be used to slice pre-connectorized pigtales on facility fiber optic tie-cables, splice connectors on fiber optic cables used for cross-connecting fiber distribution panels and splice connectors on fiber optic cables interconnecting transport equipment. This splice-on-connector approach will eliminate the need for field polishing of fiber connector tips, significantly improving the quality of the termination and reducing the installation time. Also, since this is a core alignment fusion splice system, the finished fiber optic cable will have less reflection and light loss than cables using the existing approach. FITEL is the only brand name found that makes a core-alignment fusion splicer that can also be used to terminate splice-on connectors. FITEL's connector termination process requires no polishing or epoxy, thus increasing the quality and consistency of field connector termination. Total installation time will be greatly reduced compared to traditional methods.
