- Description
- The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Active Motif, Carlsbad, CA, 92008, pursuant to 41 U.S.C.253(c)(1)--Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. This purchase is for one (1) each of the following items:1) 75114- (3 each)- DeCypher Mini-Cluster; 2) 75003- MiniCluster Support (1st year); 3) 75300- (1 each)- Installation and training. This procurement is for a reprogrammable custom computer designed especially for the Bioinformatics work at NIEHS. This computer cluster incorporates several proprietary technologies, software and patented parts to provide this functionality. This is the only found solution that provides the same performance, the equivalent of 150 microprocessors and that benefit our supercomputing. TimeLogic has provided benchmarketing to support the performance of this computer. It has been stacked against the Cray XD-1 Supercomputer. For Genomic Analysis, a purchase of about 4 times more Cray XD-1 would be required. The technology that makes the TimeLogic unique is called FPGA or Field Programmable Gate Arrays. This is a technology that lets you create custom microprocessors for any particular computer program, and then they can be reprogrammed on the fly to perform another different application. Interested parties may identify their interest and capability. Respond to this requirement by submitting written capabilities/specifications to the Contract Specialist at the address stated above. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all responses received within 5 days from the date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract action based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. If no affirmative responses are received within 5 days of this notice to determine whether a qualified source is more advantageous to the Government, an order will be placed with Active Motif. The NAICS Code /Size is339999/500, This procurement is to be processed using Simplified Acquisition Procedures in conjunction with FAR Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items and is not expected to exceedthe Simplified Acquisition threshold of $100,000. There is no solicitation package available.
