- Description
- NASA Glenn Research Center plans to issue an Invitation for Bids (IFB) for A GEARBOX. The Gearbox will be used to reduce the shaft speed between a gas turbine section on which research testing is being performed and a synchronous machine. A variable speed synchronous machine (motor/generator) will be used as both a prime mover to drive the turbine at start-up, and then act as a generator to absorb the turbine power through dynamic braking. Different turbines shall operate either clockwise or counter-clockwise. To accommodate different research turbines, the Gearbox shall accommodate gear sets with gear ratios ranging from 1.51 to 7.78 (turbine speed / sync. machine speed). The Gearbox shall use constant gear ratio sets and the turbine (pinion) shaft shall have a 2.000-inch diameter bore for turbine instrumentation wiring. The shaft centerline heights shall be 58 inches and the horizontal shaft separation distance shall be from 25 to 27 inches. Gearing shall be designed with a minimum AGMA Service Factor of 1.4 and a minimum AGMA Quality Level of 12. The synchronous machine has a maximum shaft speed of 1,800 rpm and a maximum torque capability of 36,217 ft-lb. The Gearbox shall be supplied with an initial gear set with a ratio of 7.78. For this ratio, the maximum turbine shaft speed is 14,000 rpm and the maximum turbine torque is 4,655 ft-lb. A turbine shaft lock-up mechanism and an incremental positioning system are also required. The work shall also include engineering performance calculations; factory tests; on-site test procedures; and installation, operation, maintenance, and repair instructions. OPTION 1: Lubrication System for the Gearbox, to include design, fabrication, testing, and delivery of a lubrication package. OPTION 2: A replacement gear set with a ratio of 1.51. For this ratio, the maximum turbine shaft speed is 2,718 rpm and the maximum turbine torque is 23,985 ft-lb. All equipment shall be supplied with a warranty for a minimum of 3 years starting from the time the manufacturer?s representative completes the Government Integrated Systems Test (IST) final checkout. The magnitude of the Construction project is estimated between $500,000. and $1,000,000. A FIXED PRICE CONTRACT is contemplated. This work is considered ?HEAVY AND CIVIL ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION?. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 238290 and $12.0 million in three-year average anneal receipts. THIS IS AN UNRESTRICTED PROCUREMENT. Procurement and Technical related questions shall be directed to: Erick.N.Lupson@NASA.Gov. The firm date for receipt of bids will be stated in the IFB. The Period Of Performance shall be stated in the IFB. All qualified responsible sources may submit a bid which shall be considered by the agency. The firm date for receipt of bid will be stated in the IFB. Drawings and specifications will be available from a local BLUE PRINTER listed in the IFB. All qualified responsible sources may submit a bid which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See NASA Specific Note "B". THE SOLICITATION SHALL BE POSTED AS SOON AS AN RFO OPENING DATE IS ESTABLISHED. The solicitation and any documents related to this procurement [with the exception of specifications and drawings] will be available over the INTERNET. These documents will be in Microsoft Office 2000 format and will reside on a World-Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.
