- This notice serves to inform rotational molded plastic custom molders and mold makers of the intention of Rock Island Arsenal to procure molds, prototype parts and subsequent production of two major plastic parts serving to form the major parts of a trailer mounted mobile hydraulic system service and repair shop. The lower pedestal part which mounts on a bare trailer chassis, contains tool boxes and a slideout work table with numerous mounted tools. The second part is the enclosure top half which is designed symmetrically so that identical parts can be joined to make a complete enclosure. The top contains shelf areas for storing containerized supplies and equipment and mounts additional tools ready to use. We are seeking rotational molders and moldmakers interested in one or both of these parts. Both parts will be produced from tan colored Crosslinked High Density Polyethylene. It is expected 1,400 half tops and 700 pedestals will be required over three ye ars. The half top is 96 long x 43.5 wide by 28 high. The overall width of the molded double walls is 2 plus a 2 deg. internal taper. An estimated 275 inserts will join the two halves, secure the unit to pedestal and secure brackets for stowed items. The half top double walls will have an estimated .10 to .12 inch thickness outer skin backed by an integral layer of polyethylene foam such as produced by Chroma Corp. Forma Spheres tm. This pedestal will be molded as a single wall hollow part with portions to be cut away for three doors, and for lightening, access and clearance. The pedestol is 96 long x 86 wide by 28 high. Wall stiffness will be enhanced by backing up the outer shell with a layer of integral polyethylene foam such as Chroma Corporations FOAMA SPHERES tm. Wall thickness is .25 solid plus .75 of low density foam for a total of 1 . Molding the pedestal in two parts would be considered if more economical for t ooling or production.
