Description
The Naval Air Engineering Station, (NAES) Lakehurst, NJ has a current need to provide high quality water to operate its high-pressure steam plant for its test operation. Water from wells are treated by adding sodium hydroxide to increase pH, is aerated and then passed through sand filters. Following this process, ion exchange is employed to obtain the water quality needed for boiler use. Regeneration of the ion exchange media is required periodically at the steam plant. Large quantities of sodium hydroxide and sulfuric acid is discharged to a neutralization basin, treated and then discharged to the stations sanitary sewer system. Capacity: De-ionized water is presently available at a rate of 220 gallons per minute using the ion exchange columns at the facility. Maximum monthly usage was approx 6,000,000 gallons. Average Monthly usage is approx. 1,750,000 gallons. Lowest usage has been less than 175,000 gallons. Requirements: Contractor will be able to provide a mobile demineralizer capable of providing the desired quality of demineralized water at a rate of 220 gallons per minute using wells as a source of water. The mobile unit will be capable of demineralizing a minimum of 600,000 gallons of water before maintenance/regeneration of the unit is required. The Contractor will be responsible for connecting the mobile unit to the steam plant. Unless the mobile unit is less than 8 x 16, the mobile unit shall be positioned outside the steam plant. Maintenance must be conducted off-site. No hazardous chemicals will be allowed at NAES as part of the demineralization process. No discharges will be allowed from the demineralizer except for the demineralized water and small quantities of rinse water.
