STATEMENT OF WORK Protestant Pianist/Accompanist NAS Lemoore, Chapel EFFECTIVE DATE: 14 October 2007 to 30 September 2008 TITLE: Protestant Pianist and Accompanist, NAS Lemoore Chapel Position Summary The contracted person must be able to provide music for the services for the Naval Air Station Chapel for the Protestant community. This will entail one worship service each Sunday, working with the Religious Education Director to incorporate music into the program. This includes the development of a children?s music program and as many as 12 special services through the year. The special services for the Protestant community may include Christmas, Easter, and Fifth Sunday Evening Services. In addition to providing music during these worship events the pianist/accompanist will provide a weekly rehearsal of about one hour for the Protestant choir. Qualifications 1. Have knowledge of church music, be familiar with the Liturgical seasons; Easter, Christmas, Pentecost, Advent, Lent, and Ordinary Time. Also they must be able to provide the appropriate music for each season and special celebrations such as Baptisms, Communion, and Praise service. 2. Be able to work in close liaison with the Protestant Chaplain(s). 3. Must be interviewed and selected by the senior4 chaplain in consultation with all chaplains assigned to NAS Lemoore. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provide instrumental and musical direction for all music (prelude, postludes, congregation?s music, offertory, anthems, choral and service music) at the 1100 Protestant Worship Service. There will be a five to ten minute prelude before each service. Additionally, the contracted person shall provide instrumentation and musical direction for the following special services during the year: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday (of Holy Week), Good Friday, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Vacation Bible School (five days). There may also be five or so funeral/memorial services for active duty per year and no more than four other special occasions sponsored by the Chapel during the course of this contract. 2. Provide instrumentation and choir direction for rehearsal per week and a short rehearsal on Sunday morning approximately 30 minutes before the service for special music as required. A rehearsal, as per this contract, is defined as a period of time no shorter than a half hour and no longer than on and a half hours during which the pianist/choir director rehearses the music in preparation for public use in the chapel services. 3. Work closely with the Director of Religious Education to coordinate and develop a musical program for the children involved with the Sunday School Program and with the Protestant Community at large. This includes rehearsals and occasional special children?s music to be included in the worship service. 4. The contracted person will also have access to the piano and the music library. They may also supply other musical instruments if they wish. 5. The Protestant chaplain(s) will provide any special accompaniment music to the contracted person at least two weeks in advance. The contracted person, with consultation from the Protestant chaplain(s), will select music for the Protestant service. 6. The contracted person under this contract is not responsible for weddings and memorial services for individuals other than stipulated above. 7. The contracted person agrees to provide instrumental music for a total of 48 weeks during the fiscal year and will work out the weeks away, in advance, with the Senior Chaplain. They will assist the chaplain in locating a substitute pianist during the four weeks not required to be personally present and will compensate the substitute for services rendered. 8. They will also need to advise the chaplain?s office of any repairs or tuning requirements of government property used in the services. Under no circumstances is the contracted person to contract a repairman or tuner for government property. If the contracted person does contract someone for the purpose of performing a service then they will be personally responsible for payment for the service. Evaluation The contracted person will be evaluated on the following components: 1. Directorial and musical competence 2. Ongoing flexibility and the ability to work well with the Protestant chaplain and other chaplains and members of different faiths, ethnic and social backgrounds, and children of all ages. 3. Success in providing quality music, which supports the Protestant service and the people who attend worship. 4. Professionalism, timeliness, and thoroughness in accomplishing tasks and responsibilities. Criteria Educational Background: 1. Bachelors Degree in music 2. Three year?s of comparable work in direction and music Period of Performance The period of performance of this contract shall be from 14 October 2007 to 30 September 2008. Labor Contractor will be paid for the above period of performance, to be paid monthly upon electronic submission of invoices.
