STATEMENT OF WORK EFFECTIVE DATE: 14 October 2007 to 30 September 2008 TITLE: Organist and Accompanist, Naval Postgraduate School Protestant Chapel PROVISIONS OF CONTRACT: 1. To provide services as the Naval Postgraduate School Protestant Chapel Organist and Accompanist (Contractor). 2. Organist and Accompanist will play the Chapel organ for the Sunday 0900 Episcopalian/Lutheran Liturgical Service and provide piano/organ keyboard accompaniment at other services under the following guidelines: A. LITURGICAL SERVICE: Play organ at Liturgical Service every Sunday (current schedule is 0900-1000); include prelude (5-10 minutes), postlude, congregational music, offertory, anthems, choral music and service music. B. PRAISE SERVICE: Provide keyboard or other appropriate instrument accompaniment for the Praise Service every Sunday (currently 1115-1215) under the direction of the Praise Team Leader. Also provide prelude and postlude for the service. C. REHEARSALS: Provide accompaniment for rehearsals every week for the Liturgical Choir and the Praise Team. Rehearsals are one (1) hour to one and one-half (1 ?) hours long periods of joint preparation of music to be used in services and special events. Liturgical Choir currently practices one-half (1/2) hour before and after the 0900 Sunday Service; the Praise team currently rehearsed Wednesday evenings from 1730-1830 and one-half (1/2) hour before the 1115 service. Also provide rehearsal support arranged with guest soloists. Accompany the Children?s Choir rehearsal up to one (1) hour per week (not currently scheduled). Special rehearsals as needed. D. SPECIAL SERVICES: Provide accompaniment at 15 special services per year (Memorial Services, Christmas, Christmas Cantata, Lent, Holy Week, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, MIA/POW Recognition Day, etc.) and two (2) other special occasions sponsored by the Chapel and for the corresponding rehearsals. E. PLANNING: Attend requested planning meetings ? maximum of six (6). Be available to meet for liturgical planning sessions (minimum of a one-hour (1) meeting per month). 3. The Contractor will also submit purchase requests to the assigned Chaplain for music and other Resources desired to support the music program. 4. The Contractor will have access to the NPS organs, keyboard instruments and the music library. Contractor may supply other instruments with approval of Chaplain(s). Chaplain(s) and Choir Director will provide music selections for anthems and congregational music in advance (2 weeks for choir and by rehearsal time for congregational). 5. Contractor is responsible for weddings and memorial services not already covered by the contract, but is free to charge fees to the private party if contracted separately to accompany any of these events. 6. The Contractor agrees to provide music the entire 52 weeks of the contract and will subcontract duties to another suitable accompanist when Contractor is not available. Prior arrangements must be made in order to provide the substitute access to NPS. 7. Normally the Contractor will provide contracted services at Christ the King Chapel, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. However, the Contractor may be required to provide contracted services in NPS facilities. The Navy will provide printed music and musical instruments for the choirs. 8. QUALIFICATIONS: The Contractor must: ? Be able to read four-line staff music as well as normal choral music. ? Have knowledge of church music and be familiar with the Christian liturgical year and have music appropriate to it. ? Play the organ and the piano; electronic keyboard experience is desirable. ? Be an accomplished musician with experience working in close cooperation with Christian Chaplains and choir directors. ? Be able to supply appropriate prelude and postlude music without direction. 9. PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE The period of performance of this contract shall be from 14 October 2007 to 30 September 2008. 10. LABOR Contractor will be paid for the above period of performance, to be paid monthly upon electronic submission of invoices.
