- Description
- ****SEND ALL INFORMATION FOR CONSIDERATION TO CAMERON D. GREEN AT CAMERON.D.GREEN@NASA.GOV, OR FAX TO 256-544-4401**** NASA/MSFC has a requirement for (44) test motors. NASA/MSFC intends to purchase the items on a sole source basis from GLobe Motors. Competition is impractical for the following reasons: This procurement is for electrical motors that will be used in existing test hardware in EM10's High Vacuum Test Facility. The motors are replacements for exisiting motors made by GLobe Motors and must fit in the mounting plate specifically designed for these motors. The motors must have wiring connections that are compatible to exisiting electrical supply controls and fittings. Market research indicates that there is no other known source (manufacturer or distributer) other than Globe Motors that makes the required motors. NASA has urgent need to procure these motors to support bearing testing in support of the NESC Independent Technical Assessment of the effects Lunar Dust on Mechanical Systems. No other vendor can supply these items in a timely manner. Any other vendor will have to custom make these units so the reliability and compatibility of these units with exisiting hardware would be questionable. This would be an expensive process and will delay delivery. This procurement is a sole-source. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact, Cameron D. Green at CAMERON.D.GREEN@UNA.EDU, Fax: 256-544-4401 no later than October 29th, 2007 at 4:00p.CST 4:30 p.m. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B". Any referenced notes may be viewed at the following URLs linked below.
