Description
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), Station Support/Simplified Acquisition (SS/SA) via National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) intends to negotiate and award a purchase order on a noncompetitive basis to UCLA Microarray Core 695 Charles E. Young Drive South Los Angeles, CA 90095. No period of performance. The purchase is in conjunction with Protocol Study#03-M-0035 ?Screening, Evaluation, Diagnosis, Treatment Optimization and Follow-up for Childhood Onset Psychotic Disorders. The purpose of the research is to screen and evaluate children with psychotic disorders, establish or confirm their diagnosis, and to collect data about their condition. Childhood Psychotic Disorders are debilitating conditions in which children have auditory or visual hallucinations and disorganized thoughts. Using longitudinal brain imaging our research is pursuing the following questions: What is the pattern of brain development in childhood onset psychoses? What is the relationship between the brain development pattern in COS and the clinical outcome? Is cortical gray matter loss as a trait marker? And if so, how is cortical brain development influenced by the underlying risk genotype? Is the loss of gray matter diagnostically specific? An integral part of the research process in answering these questions requires the use of microarray chips. The Child Psychiatry Branch has an ongoing collaboration with the UCLA Department of Genetics, Microarry Core for the past three years. The laboratory owns Affymetrix instruments which is necessary to run the microarrays. This equipment is prohibitively expensive and we don?t have the lab space to conduct these assays, therefore we had to collaborate with UCLA to complete these experiments. In order to complete our initial screen of our rare cohort of childhood-onset schizophrenia patients, we need to run additional arrays. It is imperative for us to continue using the same product from Affymetrix, and under the same laboratory conditions, otherwise the reliability and consistency of the research we have already collected, and at significant cost would be jeopardized. The acquisition is being conducted under FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition procedures and is exempt from the requirement of FAR Part 6, Competition Requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this synopsis. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Comments to this announcement, referencing synopsis number NOI70016 may be submitted to the NIDA, Station Support/Simplified Acquisition Branch 31, Center Drive, Bldg. 31, Room 1B59, Bethesda, MD 20892 Attention: Kathleen Gregory NOTE: THIS NOTICE MAY HAVE POSTED ON FEDBIZOPPS ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (06-NOV-2006).
