Description

The purpose of this amendment is to address a question posed about the specifications for the Vacuum Compatible Linear Actuator System. The question is: "We ask what is the minimum step that the item needs to be?" The response is: I will assume that the vendor is asking about the resolution. The resolution is the smallest travel displacement that I want to be able to detect once the actuator is in motion. The answer to the question is in specification (b) less than 10 nanometers per count resolution. We are looking for a DC motor (not a stepper motor). An encoder outputs counts as the motor turns. Gears and a screw convert the rotation of the motor into travel. When the actuator moves 10 nanometers, the encoder should output at least one count. All terms and conditions in the combined solicitation/synopsis, including deadline for submission of quotes, remain unchanged.
