- Description
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Acquisitions Management and Operations Branch (AMOB) is seeking small business sources that can produce and deliver adult worms and cercarie of Schitosoma mansoni. The successful offeror MUST be able to deliver worms and cercariae to the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland within 45 minutes after they have been harvested to ensure viability. Approximately 2,000 adult mansoni shall be required each week. When different isolates are requested at the same time, the total number of worms and/or the number of mice perfused per week for the worms will not exceed 2,000 worms or the number of mice needed to obtain 2,000 adult worms (approximately 25 mice). Approximately 500,000 cercariae shall be required each week. An additional 1 million eggs isolated from tissues of infected mice are to be provided each week. The offeror shall be responsible for providing approximately 40 hours per week of pathology services. A fixed price contract with a minimum requirement for 1,500 adult worms; 350,000 live cercariae; 750,000 purified eggs, and 0 hours of pathology services per week is contemplated. NIAID intends to award a one year contract beginning on or about July 1, 2008 with the option for four additional contract years. Any contract awarded will be subject to DHHS regulations regarding the use of animals in research. The animal care must be in accordance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, NIH publication No. 86-23, Revised 1996. This is not a request for proposals. The intention of this announcement is to survey the market for potential offerors. All interested small businesses including veteran-owned small business, service-disabled veteran-owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, and women-owned small business concerns must provide a capability statement to Amber Harris at harrisam@niaid.nih.gov on or before January 15, 2008 at 3:00pm EDT. Teaming arrangements are encouraged. (No large businesses should respond to this announcement.) Capability statements must reference similar work that has been performed by the offeror and must indicate the business size of the company.
