Description
The U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC), Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary in Key West, FL, has a requirement for base plus four option years for a contractor to oversee a project entitled Archaeological Site Assessment of Shipwrecks in the Florida Keys National Sanctuary. The contractor will survey and document the remains of historic shipwrecks in the Upper Florida Keys. Vessel, supplies, and equipment for field survey work will be provided by the FKNMS as appropriate. The work performed during the option period, if exercised will be the same as that performed during the base period.Tasks will consist of: 1) Survey of up to three shipwreck sites (time and weather dependant) spanning approximately six nautical miles in the Upper Florida Keys. 2) Act as principal investigator for field data collection and participate through scuba diving or snorkeling (site dependent. Must be a SCUBA certified and have field experience cited in the underwater shipwreck data collection and in situ preservation. 3) Travel to participate in site assessments, field surveys, and volunteer trainings and data collections. 4) Incorporate data into the Florida Master Site File form and submit it to the FKNMS. 5) Complete and submit a short status report on both funding and the project to FKNMS.Knowledge Requirements: 1) Education and experience in data collection relating to historical shipwrecks in the Florida Keys or wider Caribbean. 2) Experience working on the water. 3) Experience in report writing relevant to the subject matter of this project (historical shipwrecks).Unique Requirements: 1) Education level of Ph D. in the study of maritime archeology or similar 2) Scuba Diving Certification. The period of performance is for a base period, estimated start date 1/7/2008 thru May 30, 2008, with four option periods. The work performed during the base period will be the same for the option years, if exercised. This is a small business set-aside. The NAICS code for this action is 541990.
