- Description
- This is a modification to the synopsis entitled LANDING SENSOR ADVANCED COMPONENT TECHNOLOGIES NRA-NNL08ZD2001N which was posted on December 5, 2007. You are notified that the following questions were received for which answers are provided: Q1. Is the primary purpose to extend conventional or state-of-the-art 2D image and signal processing techniques to 3D images for enhanced spatial (depth) resolution? A2. YES Q2. Does/can the scope include any of the following? - Composite 3D model (terrain) building - Segmentation, Region of Interest (ROI) management, or foveation - Hazard assessment or target recognition - Path planning or re-targeting - Velocity, range or altitude estimation (beyond GSD estimation) A2. NO Q3. Should the system be targeted for an embedded environment even at TRL 3/4? A3. YES Q4. Can one propose a system-level ALHAT solution, or are responses constrained to the technologies described in Appendix A- Solicited Component and Subsystem-level Technologies? A4. System-level ALHAT solutions are not of interest under this NRA. As stated in the NRA, ?The purpose of this NRA is to solicit partners to research, develop, and demonstrate component- and subsystem-level technologies specifically related to ALHAT that will increase performance, reduce risk, cost, size, and mass of a state of the art sensor capable of enabling a descent vehicle to autonomously perform a safe and accurate landing. The basic technology chosen for this sensor is flash LIDAR. Flash LIDAR provides a 3-D imaging capability which can be exploited to generate the necessary information for accurate navigation by implementation of appropriate real time signal and/or image processing techniques. The goal is to advance the core sensor component technologies to a technology readiness level that enables their eventual infusion into future space flight missions.? Q5. Are we required to develop detectors that covers the whole 1 - 2 um band (ref. technology topic area 1, pg. 12)? Are specific bands more beneficial than others (match laser wavelength)? A5. No. 1-2 um is the spectral range of interest for technology development. Q6. Is the 256 x 256 pixel format the end goal or is it the starting point? A6. It is the goal as stated in topic area 1. Q7. In technology topic 2 (ROIC objectives), there is a dynamic range specification of 14 bits. Is this associated with a time or amplitude (intensity) quantity? A7. Dynamic Range refers to amplitude. The due date for responses is not extended. Documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet. These documents will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.
