Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS) intends to negotiate on a sole-source basis with Roche Diagnostics, Roche Applied Science, 911 Hague Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250-0414, to obtain reagent supplies for genome sequencing using the Model GS FLX Genome Sequencer system manufactured by Roche. The Genome Sequencer FLX instrument (GS FLX) is a DNA sequencer designed and built by 454 Life Sciences and distributed by Roche Applied Science. The sequencer is equipped with Linux-based hardware and software for either re-sequencing, or de novo assembly projects. The technology for this system is based on enrichment of randomly sheared DNA followed by clonal amplification and pyrosequencing. Reagents required to run this system include GS FLX compatible library preparation kits for linker modified single stranded DNA, emulsion based PCR kits, High Fidelity Taq, Sequencing Kits, Control DNA beads, PicoTiter Plate Kits, and maintenance wash kits. The GS FLX library preparation reagents, emulsion based PCR kits, sequencing kits, PicoTiter Plate Kits and maintenance wash kits are only available through Roche. The GS FLX warranty is conditional that customers agree to use the instrument in strict accordance with Roche operating instructions, including Roche sole source specifications regarding reagent kits. Other interested parties may submit questions and/or qualification statements to the Contractor Officer by February 11, 2008, for consideration. A solicitation will be issued after that date. Commercial items best value procedures are being used for this project.
