Description

The AOC intends to engage a qualified general contractor to perform all work as necessary to retrofit two emergency egress stairs within the United States Capitol Building. Both stairways will be on the west side of the Capitol; one new stair will be on the House wing and the other will be on the Senate side. Both shall be executed concurrently as the work area is easily isolated from the occupied areas of the building. The creation of these two new stairways involves shoring, demolition, underpinning, and the subsequent construction of the new structure(s). The new stairs themselves will be cast-in-place concrete with painted aluminum hand and guardrails. It will be necessary to introduce two new exit doorways into the west face of the existing building structure. These egress doorways will require the modification of the Capitol's existing historic stone facade. Also part of the project is the related mechanical, electrical, storm drain, sprinkler, drywall and related architectural work. Due to security concerns, access to the work site is restricted and closely controlled by the AOC and the USCP. The solicitation will be issued on or about October 15, 2007. The due date for receipt of proposals will be on or about November 16, 2007. The solicitation will be available electronically at http://www.aoc.gov/business/procure-opps.cfm on the date of issuance. INTERESTED PARTIES ARE ENCOURAGED TO DOWNLOAD THE ELECTRONIC VERSION AS THIS WILL EXPEDITE RECEIPT OF THE SOLICITATION. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO MONITOR THIS SITE FOR ALL CHANGES!! The estimated magnitude of this project is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000.
