- Description
- The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Aviation Weather Center (AWC), located in Kansas City, MO, intends to establish a fixed price purchase order for the purchase of maintenance for the MCIDAS application (MCIDAS is a suite of applications for analyzing and displaying meteorological data for research and education. MCIDAS has been in use and under continual development by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) since 1972. The software can be used with conventional observational, satellite, and grid-point data. MCIDAS-X is available for use on one or two units) on a sole source basis from University of Wisconsin-Space Science and Engineering Center, located in Madison, WI, based on the following: 1) AWC currently utilizes MCIDAS-X software to ingest and process data; 2) The MCIDAS-X software is proprietary to the University of Wisconsin-Space Science and Engineering Center as they are the authors of the software; 3) The University of Wisconsin-Space Science and Engineering Center is the only known source for maintenance. The proposed purchase order will be for a base year and include 4 option years.
