Description
QUESTION: Is this program seen as a stop-gap program until the TRICARE Active Duty Dental Plan (once awarded) kicks in? ANSWER: No. The RC-MRP is not a TRICARE dental plan and has nothing to do with any other programs out there. QUES TION: While a patient can usually be seen within 10 days for a diagnostic examination, it generally takes several weeks to be scheduled for definitive dental treatment. Once the Reservist has been on active duty for more than 30 days, will he then be tre ated under the Active Duty Dental Plan? ANSWER: The RC-MRP program has the military dentist at the mobilization platform dental clinic performing the examination and prescribing the type of care to be performed to the RC-MRP network provider. All pati ents in this program will be required to be seen for a treatment appointment within 10 days of a voucher being created and the appointment made, not a few weeks. This is mobilization care that must be performed quickly before the Soldiers deployment and w ith minimal interruption to their pre-deployment training. The mobilized Soldier only receives Dental Fitness Classification (DFC) 3 dental care, which is disease that will become a dental emergency within 12 months if it is not taken care of prior to dep loyment. Routine dental care is not normally provided by the mobilization platform dental clinic since the mobilizing unit's priority is training to deploy. QUESTION: Are you able to give any information as to the number of personnel which may qualify for this program? ANSWER: All RC Soldiers who are mobilized to a mobilization platform dental clinic and are identified as Class 3 (either upon arrival or subsequent sick call during training prior to deployment) are eligible for this program. The number of DFC 3 Soldiers treated using the RC-MRP is completely dependent upon how many RC Soldiers arrive to a mobilization platform as DFC 3, the capacity to treat at the mobilization platform dental treatment facility, and whether that facility ha s specialists. During FY04, over 3,700 appointments were referred to the provider network; FY05 - over 6,700 appointments; FY06 - over 5,600 appointments; through February of FY07, 460 appointments.
