- Description
- The Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division, China Lake, CA intends to procure on an other than full and open competition basis the following items: (1) 1500 feet of Palladium/Aluminum Jellyroll wire: The wire is to be made of alternating Palladium and Aluminum layers. The Aluminum alloy shall be 97 weight % Aluminum and 3 weight % Magnesium. The Palladium purity shall exceed 99.8%. The average Palladium layer thickness within the finished wire shall be 7? 0.5 microns. The Palladium layers must make up 48.6 ? 2 Volume % of the wire excluding the drawing sheath. The drawing sheath must make up no more than 25% of the wire volume. The wire is to be 0.011 ? 0.002 inches in diameter. The minimum length of acceptable wire segments is 25-feet/segment. Draw down a sample piece of item 1 wire until the wire breaks repeatedly. Report the diameter and conditions of the wire at this state. (2) 700 feet of Palladium/Aluminum Jellyroll wire all made from a single starting billet: The wire shall be made of alternating Palladium and Aluminum layers. The Aluminum shall be a 1000 or 3000 series alloy (which ever the manufacturer suggests). The Palladium purity shall exceed 99.8%. The average Palladium layer thickness within the finished wire shall be 7? 0.5 microns. The Palladium layers must make up 48.6 ? 2 Volume % of the wire excluding the drawing sheath. The drawing sheath must make up no more than 25% of the wire volume. The wire is to be 0.011 ? 0.002 inches in diameter. Draw down a sample piece of item 2 wire until the wire breaks repeatedly. Report the diameter and conditions of the wire at this state. (3) 700 feet of Palladium/Aluminum Jellyroll wire all made from a single starting billet: The wire shall be made of alternating Palladium and Aluminum layers. The Aluminum shall be a 1000 or 3000 series alloy (whichever was not used in item 2). The Palladium purity shall exceed 99.8%. The average Palladium layer thickness within the finished wire shall be 7? 0.5 microns. The Palladium layers must make up 48.6 ? 2 Volume % of the wire excluding the drawing sheath. The drawing sheath must make up no more than 25% of the wire volume. The wire is to be 0.012 ? 0.002 inches in diameter. Draw down a sample piece of item 3 wire until the wire breaks repeatedly. Report the diameter and conditions of the wire at this state. This requirement is sole sourced to Supercon Inc., 830 Boston Turnpike Rd., Shewsbury, MA 01545, based on the fact that Supercon is the only known company that can provide the needed product. Any firms believing that they can provide the jellyrole wire may submit a written response to be received at the Contracting Office no later than 5 days after the date of publication of this notice. It must clearly show the firm's ability to be responsive without compromising the quality, accuracy or reliability of the product without causing programmatic hardship.
