- Description
- The Joint Munitions & Lethality Life Cycle Management Command (JM&L LCMC) Acquisition Center at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000 intends to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the procurement of an XM205 Lightweight Tripod for Heavy Machine Guns. This system shall be capable of mounting to both the M2/M2A1.50 Caliber Machine Gun and the MK19 Grenade Machine Gun (GMG). This procurement is a 100% small business set-aside. An Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) with two (2) Options will be utilized. Additional information will be provided in the RFP. The lightweight tripod system will reduce the weight and size burden of the M3 tripod yet enable the soldier to deliver a high degree of accurate fire from a stable base. The XM205 Machine Gun Tripod shall have the following characteristics: 1) Weight no more than 31 lbs (T); 25 lbs (O). 2) The tripod must be capable of mounting both the M2 .50 Caliber and MK19 machine guns without the need for special/unauthorized adapters. The tripod shall be compatible with the standard, current machine gun mounts and pintles (e.g. MK93 Carriage and Cradle; NSN 1010-01-502-7547, .50 Cal Machine Gun pintle; NSN 1010-01-151-6217.) The tripod components shall interface with the current mounting locations of the M2 .50 Cal MG or MK19 GMG without permanent modifications to these mounting features. Non-permanent adaptors made to the weapons are acceptable. 3) A Traverse and Elevation (T&E) mechanism that is integral to the tripod. The T&E mechanism shall permit controlled manipulation in both traverse and elevation by hand force of the User, allow for rapid and bold adjustment throughout the full range of traverse and elevation, and 1 mil fine adjustment capability. A self-contained unit that provides position (elevation and azimuth) display is desired. 4) A T&E that allows for rapid and bold adjustment. T&E display provides weapon elevation and azimuth during bold adjustments. 5) The tripod shall collapse to less than 50% of its deployed width and height for ease of transportation. Overall length and width of the LTHMG shall not exceed 45 inches and 7.75 inches (not including the width across feet on tripod legs) respectively in the collapsed configuration. The tripod shall capable of being folded, collapsed or otherwise reduced in size, without disassembly, into a compact package for storage and transporting during Airborne operations. 6) Have a geometry that takes advantage of the full range and versatility of the M2 .50 Caliber and MK19 machine guns and allows the weapons to maintain consistent elevation/depression throughout the full range of weapon traverse. The deployed height of the tripod shall have a minimum height to accommodate firing from the sitting and prone positions. This is not an RFP; the release of a RFP is antcipated on or about 3 March 2008. Questions shall be submitted in writing to the U.S. Army JM&L LCMC, Attn: Yasmine Clanton, Contract Specialist, at yasmine.clanton@us.army.mil. TELEPHONE INQUIRES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. See note 1
