- Description
- The United States Geological Survey, Western Coastal and Marine Geology (C&MG), Pacific Science Center in Santa Cruz, California has a requirement for scientific, geology consulting services. These scientific services are requested for a base period of March 10, 2008 through August 31, 2008 with two option periods of September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009 and September 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010. The C&MG Team requires a geologist and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialist with extensive knowledge of GIS analysis of the size of clasts in sedimentary deposits using aerial photos and quantification of shoreline change from satellite images as well as creation of Digital Bathymetric Models (DBMs) to allow USGS to meet its obligation to improve tsunami hazard assessment in the Tsunami Hazard Potential in the Caribbean (THPC) and Coastal and Marine Catastrophic Hazard (CMCH) projects at the Pacific Science Center in Santa Cruz, California. Travel to Santa Cruz, California will be required. The contractor's capabilities must include an understanding of and familiarity with shoreline change analysis techniques and quantification of spatial distribution of sediment deposit characteristics. The contractor shall be a trained, professional geologist with a specialization in GIS with first-hand knowledge of the sediments and geology of Hawaii and has produced GIS maps of that region. The contractor shall be able to analyze nearshore geology, shoreline change, and the import of GIS based bathymetry into sediment transport programs such as MatLab and EFDC. This acquisition will be processed in accordance with the procedures of FAR Part 12, entitled, "Acquisition of Commercial Items." Solicitation 08WRSS0009 will be made available through the Government-wide Point of Entry (GPE) on or about 03 March 2008, IAW Far 5.102(a)(1).
