Description
The Alter-G treadmill is covered and surrounded by an inflatable bag. The top center of the bag has a hole through which the exercising subject steps onto the treadmill surface. Before entering the machine, the user puts on a special pair of athletic shorts. They step through the hole in the inflatable bag and zip the waist band of the shorts into the top of the bag. The shorts create an air-tight, flexible seal around the torso of the subject A touch screen control panel allows the user to choose a body weight at which to exercise. They can choose to reduce their effective body weight by as much as 80% (in as small as 1 % increments). For example, a 200 pound individual could exercise at an effective weight as low as 40 pounds. When a reduction in body weight is selected, the G- Trainer increases the pressure in the bag in proportion to the desired reduction in weight. This increases the lifting force on the subject and effectively reduces their body weight on the treadmill surface. It takes very little pressure in the bag to produce a substantial lifting force. Because the bag pressure is small and distributed over a large surface area, the exercising individual feels very little force on their body. The comfort and natural gait while exercising makes the G- Trainer unique among un-weighting devices and confers a significant advantage over competitive systems. PERFORMANCE .
