- On behalf of the Joint Ordnance Commanders Group (JOCG), Munitions Demilitarization/Disposal Subgroup and the Product Manager for Demilitarization; the Defense Ammunition Center announces the Global Demilitarization Symposium and Exhibition 5-9 May 2 008. Participation by government, academia, industry, and international personnel is encouraged to foster cooperation in meeting the challenges of future global efforts. This event continues to support U.S. Department of Defense in global efforts directed at reducing the stockpile of excess and obsolete strategic, tactical, and conventional munitions. The Symposium features invited keynote speaker BG William N. Phillips, Commanding General, Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Comm and and PEO Ammunition; Product Manager for Demil Updates; Headquarters/Program Reviews; panel discussions and exhibits. The agenda spotlights ongoing demil/disposal, resource recovery, recycling, and reuse operations and programs, sale of recovered demil materials, demil R&D efforts, transitioning technologies; and environmental, safety and policy issues that affect this business. 2008 Global Demilitarization Symposium and Exhibition features: - Defense Ammunition Centers (DAC) Technology Di rectorate will plan, advertise and execute the symposium with guidance from the Subgroup. - Location: Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown, Salt Lake City, Utah - Attendance fees reduced by 66% or more, dependent on affiliation. - Meals will not be i ncluded. - Agenda will remain comparable, allowing participants an opportunity to learn about the latest program guidance, execution and R&D programs, environmental issues, and meet with others from the demilitarization community. - Meeting facility will be comparable to previous locations. - Meeting scheduled on 5-8 May 2008. - Tour of Tooele Army Depots Ammunition Peculiar Equipment (APE) and Demil Capabilities on 9 May 2008. - Opportunities for Exhibitors to demonstrate their products a nd services. - Opportunities for Side-Bar meetings in conjunction with the symposium. - John L. Byrd, Jr., Excellence in Munitions Demilitarization Award Attendees can register for the Demil Symposium via the DAC Events Registration System. T he web-based system provides information on the symposium, hotel reservations, conference registration, exhibit registration, Byrd award nomination and symposium call for papers. We envision these changes will continue to provide a symposium that is designed to improve and reduce the cost of munitions demilitarization in the future.
