MSS will provide mounted combat crews uninterrupted viewing of their immediate surroundings while remaining connected to onboard platform command, control, communications, computers and intelligen ce (C4I) capabilities. MSS also will provide maximum individual protection from Chemical/Biological (CB) contamination without reducing individual dexterity, tactility, agility and mobility. The MSS includes a head gear subsystem (helmet, head-mounted di splay, and improved audio headset and microphone); body gear subsystem (which includes crewmember cordless communications, micro-climate cooling garment, improved protective clothing and ballistic protection); and a Vehicle Interface Kit subsystem with com ponents that mount to the vehicle (including a micro-climate cooling kit and battery charger). The MSS equips all Combat Vehicle Crewman (including Abrams, Stryker, Bradley, Paladin, and Future Combat Systems (FCS) platforms) and selected Maneuver Support and Maneuver Sustainment Soldiers who perform mounted missions. The first prototypes will be delivered for testing in 4QTRFY09.
