- This sources sought synopsis is for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation; therefore, there are no Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to download. No telephone calls will be accepted requesting a bid package or solicitation. There is no bid package or solicitation at this time. This synopsis is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The Government will not pay for any effort expended in responding to this announcement. It is the potential of feror's responsibility to monitor this site for the release of any amendment of this announcement. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF REQUIREMENT: The Armed Scout Helicopter Program Office of the Program Executive Office Aviation, at the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), located at Redstone Arsenal, AL, is seeking a possible candidate .50 caliber gun system for use on the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Helicopter. The candidate machine gun system must meet the following criteria: 1. Capable of fi ring .50 caliber ammunition. 2. Configured as a self-contained machine gun system; i.e. must operate off its own internal power and be capable of capturing all spent cartridges and links. 3. Capable of being jettisoned to fully separate from the airc raft and attaching cable during jettison sequence. 4. Be currently available in the commercial marketplace for immediate purchase. 5. Have a minimum capacity of 400 rounds stored externally to the aircraft and internally to the machine gun system; i .e., must contain all ammunition internal to the gun system separate from the aircraft. 6. Have a rate of fire of a minimum of 1100 rounds per minute. 7. Weigh no more than 350 pounds with a full compliment of ammunition. 8. Interface with the ALC AN BRU-165A jettison rack (NATO standard bomb lug interface). 9. Must accept an external 28V DC discrete firing signal from the aircraft for operational control of the gun system. Companies are required to provide three (3) copies of any literat ure describing their candidate gun system by the closing date of this announcement to the address shown below. Potential sources may be requested to immediately provide (within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement) a no cost bailment of one complete gun system for evaluation by the Government. The location for delivery of the gun system will be provided to the potential offerors at a later date by Government letter.
