Description
The United States Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District (USACE-AD) is conducting a geotechnical exploration program in support of a feasibility study for an additional small boat harbor at Valdez, Alaska. A project location map is enclosed as Figu re 1. The project site is east and adjacent to the Ship Escort Response Vessel System (SERVS) dock and south and adjacent to the rock outcrop locally known s Hotel Hill. The purpose of the drilling and sampling is to characterize the subsurface conditio ns for purposes of dredging, slope stability, the design of rubblemound and pile structures, and to chemically characterize the material to be dredged. Test borings are located offshore and are shown on the enclosed Proposed Test Boring Location Map, Figur e 2. Tidal fluctuations during the planned drilling timeframe are to range from a low of about 1.2 feet to a high of about 12.4 feet mean lower low water (MLLW) based upon published tide tables. The USACE-AD will provide engineers and a chemist to log the borings and characterize the material and surveyors to provide horizontal and vertical positioning. The Drill Contractor shall provide all associated materials, supplies, hazardous and toxic waste (HTW) spill clean-up supplies, barge and barge crew, dr ill rig(s), and support equipment to perform the planned work. The drill crews shall be hazardous waste operations certified in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120.
