- Description
- The U.S. Geological Survey, Biological Resources Discipline, is interested in the response of desert tortoises to post-wildfire habitat in Clark and Lincoln counties in Nevada. It is necessary to fit tortoises with a small, store-on-board GPS datalogger to be mounted to the scutes of the animal using epoxy. The datalogger must meet the following specifications: Weight less than 50g; Dimensions not to exceed 54mm x 35 mm x 15mm; Memory store-on-board capacity of up to 30,000 locations; Download via USB connector; Equipped with light sensor such that no fixes are taken when dark; Rechargeable batteries, life up to 13 months depending on fix rate; Fully programmable for fix times and maximum fix times; Conformal coating and waterproof coating, but connector exposed; Supplied with computer program to interface with programmable datalogger. The USGS is unaware of any units currently available in the commercial marketplace that would meet these needs. On or about 07 April 2008, the USGS will release competitive Request for Quotations (RFQ) number 08WRQQ0063, in accordance with the procedures of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13, to develop/produce quantity forty (40) units meeting the specifications above. The RFQ will be unrestricted under NAICS code 334220, entitled "Radio and Television Broadcasting and Wireless Communications Equipment Manufacturing," corresponding index entry "GPS (global positioning system) equipment manufacturing." Complete technical specifications and source selection criteria will be released with the RFQ.
