Description

While effective, current reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technologies consume large amounts of energy and require frequent maintenance. DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals to develop revolutionary technologies that greatly reduce the energy consumption and maintenance of desalination systems while at the same time supporting high rates of desalination. Specifically, DARPA seeks new integrated separation technologies that produce 75 gallons per hour (gph) of potable water from seawater while achieving two orders of magnitude reduction in size and weight, and one order of magnitude reduction in power, compared to existing systems. To meet this challenge, only technologies that improve water permeability 100 fold over existing desalination technologies will be considered See full proposal attachment
