Description
United States Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Central Region Acquisition Division, (CRAD) is seeking sources interested in South Florida Fish and Invertebrate Monitoring Project, for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFCS) at Miami, FL. This is intended to be a five year, Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract. The NMFS, of Miami, FL has a need for continuing the studies quantifying sea grass-associated fish and invertebrate community composition and abundance using the 1-m2 throw-trap gear. The objective is to assess the success of upstream water management activities related to restoration through observation and analysis of the response of the near shore epibenthic fish and invertebrate (shrimp and crab) communities in south Florida Bay estuaries. The requirements are to quantify fish and invertebrate (caridean and penaeid shrimp, crabs) species abundance and community composition at 19 locations in Florida Bay, along the southwest mangrove coast including Whitewater Bay, and in Biscayne Bay including Card and Barnes Sounds and Manatee Bay with the throw-trap, process the samples, enter, conduct quality control, and summarize the data. The work consists of two multi-week field collections and two periods of sample processing and data file development. The two collections are from one Wet and one Dry season, a total of not less than 1140, will be processed in the laboratory. Laboratory processing involves sorting fish, shrimp and crabs from the material collected in each sweep net sample in the field, identification to species if possible of organisms collected using standard reference texts and the project reference collection, and enumeration of all individuals where possible to include number and size, and gender for the pink shrimp, a species of special interest. A 10% subsample from each sample following sorting is resorted as a quality check. Annually, two full collections, 1140 samples, must be processed. Currently the equipment is available from only one known source, the Oceanographic Center of Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL., under the direction of Dr. Richard Dodge. The OC laboratory currently provides the personnel, laboratory facilities, field support and administrative support to the USGS portion of this collaborative effort. Interested firms shall provide, in writing, the company name, address, point of contact, telephone number, and business size; and a statement regarding their capabilities and qualifications to provide the services that meet or exceed the above mentioned requirements. Responses can be faxed to Charlene Yaple @ 816-274-6977 or sent via email to Charlene.A.Yaple@noaa.gov.
