Description
THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 2 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR DIGITALCCD CAMERA. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This noticeserves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will notbe issued. The purpose of this amendment is to answer a question from a vendor. Question: The specification calls for a total noise less than 30 electrons. Ourunderstanding of TSP and PSP imaging applications is that the noise requirements are muchlower. Can the technical POC confirm this value? Answer: The 30 electrons noise cited in the specifications is the total noise, including system electronics noise, dark pattern noise, and dark current shot noise atthe maximum read rate.As for PSP and TSP requirements, many groups are moving away fromtypical slow-scan back-illuminated scientific grade cameras (which indeed have a muchlower noise floor) and using newer interline transfer and other front-illuminatedarchitecture cameras with success. The total noise of these types of systems approachthis level. It is expected that with the increased throughput that can be acquired usingthese types of cameras, image averaging and other means to decrease the noise (includingusing slower read rates if applicable) can be used as needed. The TSP and PSPapplications envisioned for these cameras are such that the intensity changes to bemeasured should generally be well above this noise floor (30 electrons) and the possibleincreased throughput is more desirable (for possible higher frame rates). The due date for receipt of offers is not extended. Companies shall provide theinformation stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service(NAIS) on April 30, 2008.
