Description
Fort Hood Texas is looking for possible sources to provide the following services. Interest can be expressed via email only at leeann.burke@us.army.mil. The contractor shall provide rail car recovery and loading services (including preparation for shipment) of six DODX railcars and all associated equipment (trucks, wheels, chains, miscellaneous pieces and scrap) onto other DODX rail cars and into Gondola cars for shipment to a designated repair facility. Contractor must have personnel fully trained in derailment rail car recovery. Additionally the contractor must have the ability to cross over existing track without damaging it (soft shoe equipment with side boom lifting capability). C.5.1. The contractor shall provide derailment / rail car recovery (including all ancillary equipment), loading and securing of loads, cleanup of scrap materials, track repair (if needed), certification of loads and site remediation if needed. To accomplish this activity, the contractor shall perform the following tasks: C.5.2. Remove damaged rail cars and associated equipment from their current resting places onto other functional DODX 40000 Series rail cars (provided by the Army) C.5.3 Damaged rail cars will be mounted upright on the carrying car; blocking with wood to avoid metal-to-metal contact, prevent rocking from side to side, and permit access to chain tie down assembly turnbuckles. Then run as many pairs of chain tie down assemblies as deemed necessary from outside anchor channel, up through the container pedestal pockets of the damaged car, and hook to each other across deck of damaged car. The working load limit of chain tie down assemblies is 13,750 lbs. The weight of the cars with trucks is approximately 100,000 lbs. (Even though the trucks will be loaded separately, using the weight of the car with trucks to be conservative produces a requirement for 100000/13750 = 7.27 = 8 chain tie down assemblies per car using DODX 40000 series cars.) C5.4 All ancillary rail car equipment and scrap will be loaded into Gondola Cars (trucks, axles, springs, chains, binders, brake wheels, etc.)
