- Description
- Provide all labor, equipment and materials necessary to collect soil data for 400 points, in the form of 40 transects of 5 points each, and examined to a depth of 40 inches or to the top of the substratum, whichever occurs first. Minimum data requirements from all points will include: slope, surface texture, family texture, drainage class, depth to carbonates (if applicable), color (hue) of the subsoil, location- using a GPS, vegetation, soil series (best fit), and any other notes necessary to properly classify the soil. In addition, erosion class will be evaluated on the eroded phase map units, and depth to bedrock will be noted for shallow and moderately deep phase map units. Additionally, a brief summary will be written for each transect, addressing such items as: accuracy of linework, suggestions for changes to the map unit, notes regarding soil classification (fits or doesn’t fit, and if not, why?), potential for map unit to fit into a “standard” 0-3, 3-8, 8-15, 15-25, 25-35% slope class, apparent inclusions in map unit that weren’t hit by a transect point, identification of one potential pedon description site which best represents the map unit and comment on it’s potential as a typical pedon site. Transects will be run across the map unit in such a way as to best represent the contents of the entire map unit (i.e.- perpendicular to hill slopes, streams, etc.). Transect points will be at a minimum interval of 100 ft., and will not be collected within 20 ft. of a road. However, observations from road cuts may be used for making supplemental notes regarding the map unit. All transect locations (polygons) must be approved by Government Representative before any observation is taken. Transects of the same map unit will be randomly generated, in order to capture the variability across the entire extent of the map unit. However, transects of different assigned map units may occur from the same tract of land or same general vicinity if randomly selected. Maps identifying areas to be transected will be provided. The Contractor will mark the transect location on these maps and return them along with the corresponding transect data. Also, based on field observations, suggested improvements/ changes to soil mapping will be made on these maps. The Contractor will be responsible for obtaining landowner permission A firm fixed price contract will be awarded. Performance time is June 9, 2008 thru September 30, 2008. Estimated price range = less than $25,000.00
