- The Chugach National Forest intends to solicit proposals for a contractor, with extensive experience in safely conducting internal surveys of abandoned mines to evaluate potential use by roosting bats, to provide expertise and labor toward survey, design, construction and installation of closures on one (1) adit at the Monarch Mine. Work shall involve site visits and internal surveys of mine; design and construction of adit closure; and production of summary reports. The project will occur at the Monarch Mine about eight miles from Girdwood, AK in Section 16 of Township 11 N and Range 2 E of the Seward Meridian near the headwaters and on the east side of Crow Creek. Access to the site would be by hiking on the Crow Pass Trail. A helicopter may be used to transport equipment and supplies. The request for proposal will be posted on the FedBizOpps website on or about 10 June 2008. Proposals will be due approximately 24 June 2008. The estimated date for issuance of the Notice to Proceed is 27 June 2008 with an estimated start date of 4 July 2008 and anticipated completion date of 15 September 2008.
