- Description
- The project consists of communications work at Little Rock Air Force Base. The contractor shall provide new 24 gage twisted pair copper cables and fiber optic cables in existing communications manholes and underground ductwork as shown in the solicitation. Twisted pair cable sizes will range from 900 pair down to 50 pair. Fiber optic cable will be 12-strand, single-mode cable. Approximate cable lengths are 5,100 feet of 900 pair cable, 4,000 feet of 600 pair cable, 400 feet of 50 pair cable, and 1,000 feet of fiber optic cable. Installation work also includes testing of all cabling for adequate continuity (open & shorts, signal pass/loss). The work will also include splicing existing loose multi-pair communication cables (50 pair and 100 pair) into the new cables at manholes. The installing contractor shall provide a one (1) year warranty for all communication installations performed including any troubleshooting and/or repairs as required. Mandatory qualifications of the contractor or cable splicer are: (a) A minimum of three (3) years journeyman level experience in the splicing, installation, maintenance, repair and testing of multiple conductor underground communications cabling. (b) Possess certification in single and multi-mode fiber optic and category five and six (CAT 5/6) cable installation, termination, and disconnection. (c) An understanding and utilization of engineered drawings, equipment, and installation performance specifications, and technical manuals relevant to communication cabling. (d) Be physically capable of performing the duties as required (i.e., heavy lifting and working in enclosed spaces). The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code applicable to this project is 238210, which corresponds to SIC 1731. The Small Business Size Standard is $31.0 Million. The magnitude of the project is between $250,000.00 and $500,000.00. This project will be solicited as an Invitation for Bid with intent to award a Firm-Fixed Price construction contract. The solicitation, plans, and specifications will be made available on or about 16 June 2008. This solicitation and its associated information will be issued via Internet only and will not be made available in hard copy format. Notification of amendments shall be made via internet only as well. It is therefore the contractors responsibility to check the following address daily for any posted changes to this solicitation.
