Description
The Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC), under the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), invites potential offerors to a site visit on Thursday, June 12, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time as the first and mandatory step in the Demolition and Removal of Chiller Units and Concrete Footings best value procurement. PIADC is a secure United States Government facility located on Plum Island, New York, approximately 1.5 miles from the eastern end of Long Island's North Fork. Requests for visitor applications and information regarding ferry schedules from New York and/or Connecticut must be submitted in writing electronically to both Ms. Sharon Flowers at Sharon.Flowers1@dhs.gov and Ms. Patricia La Riviere-Hom at Patricia.LaRiviere-Hom@dhs.gov on or before 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, June 5, 2008. Final visitor applications are due via e-mail to Ms. Flowers or Ms. LaRiviere-Hom on or before 12:00 noon Eastern Time on Monday, June 9, 2008. This effort requires the demolition, decontamination (which will be out of scope and managed by PIADC personnel on-site), removal, and disposal of two (2) 1950-era decommissioned chiller units from the basement of the PIADC Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) containment laboratory. Both of these saltwater chillers units have been disconnected from the existing chilled water distribution system, either at shut off valves or blind flanges, and all power has been shut off to the related equipment and motors. In addition, any ancillary piping, pumps, associated electrical gear (motor controls, cable and conduit) and concrete equipment pedestals must be dismantled and removed in order to provide additional work space in the basement for laboratory support operations. Interested contractors may send no more than two (2) individuals to represent their company during the site visit. Individuals must be United States citizens. Also, an individual may represent only one potential offeror. The Request for Proposals (RFP), including the Statement of Work (SOW), will be released in July 2008, upon request to potential offerors who participated in the mandatory site visit.
