Description
The US Geological Survey intends to award a noncompetitive Purchase Order to The University of California, Riverside to study and report on circumstances under which earthquake rupture may jump between fault segmants along the Northern Caribbean Plate Boundry (NCPB), and evaluate the tsunami risk associated with the resultant earthquakes. This information will be used to improve the USGS tsunami and seismic hazard assessments for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Interested parties must have experience in the dynamics of dip-slip faults, dynamic interactions between strike-slip faults and dip-slip faults, branched fault systems, earthquakes that jump between fault systems, and faults with heterogeneous stress paterns. Facilities must have available software and large-scale computing resources necessary to to conduct high-resolution simulations of dynamic stress interactions and tsunami generation. This Notice of Intent is not a request for quotes, but interested parties may identify their interest and capability to analyze the dynamic stress interactions and dynamic tsunami generation models in support of the USGS Costal & Marine Geology Caribbean Tsunami Hazards Project, provide digital finite-element meshes of offshore faults of the NCPB, run scenarios fault models on the NCPB under a number of different circumstances, determine the circumstances under where multi-fault ruptues occur in the NCPB, and calculate tsunami generation, and propogation and run-up resulting from the scenarios earthquakes as desrcibed above, to the Contract Specialist by email (sevans@usgs.gov) no later than the response date shown in the announcement.
