- Description
- This project involves reconstruction and repair, as needed, along a 3 mile section of the Snoqualmie Lake Trail #1002. Work includes clearing, grubbing, excavation, stream ford construction, turnpike construction, rock retaining wall construction, puncheon construction, and the installation of a variety of drainage structures, and the reconstruction of a trail bench across several sections of bedrock. Blasting will be necessary on some sections of reconstruction and construction. All work is within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area. This project is located on the Snoqualmie Ranger District of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and entirely within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area. The trailhead is approximately 13 miles north of the town of North Bend, Washington, in the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River Valley. Drive I-90 east from Seattle or Bellevue to Exit 34. Turn left, travel ¼ mile to the Middle Fork Road. Turn right, continue to the “Y”, and stay right. The beginning of this project is located approximately 9 miles up the Middle Fork Road (FSR #56), pass the Middle Fork Trailhead on the right, and continue past the Middle Fork Campground and across the Taylor River. Just past the road bridge, stay left (straight). The road ends in ¼ mile at a locked gate. Hike 6 miles on the Taylor River Road to the end. The Snoqualmie Lake trail takes off to the left near the end of the road. The contractor will be able to have vehicle access through the gate for long term parking and camping. The road is not passable by vehicles beyond the Quartz Creek Road (approx. another ¼ mile). The roadbed is open to bicycles and campsites may be found along the roadbed near the junction with the Snoqualmie Lake Trail. Work is anticipated to begin on August 6, 2008 and will run through October 31, 2009. The Government’s estimated price is between $100,000 and $250.000. This project is 100% set aside for HubZone small business. Bonding is required. Technical contact for this project is Bill Sobieralski at (425) 888-1421 ext 239. Email bsobieralski@fs.fed.us
