Description
NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) is requesting information about cryogenicallycooled dome structures. The domes will be used as propellant tank surface simulators intwo Thermal Development tests (TD01 and TD02) planned for the closed compartments in theAres I Crew Launch Vehicle Upper Stage (Attachment 1, Figure 3). It is expected that the propellant tank surface simulators will be predominantlyconstructed of aluminum plate, tubing and seamless pipe. Materials shall conform toapplicable standards (ASTM). Specific information about suppliers ability to holdtolerances as related to surface geometry are of interest. The impact of surfacetreatments as defined later in this document on the cost and delivery schedule of thepropellant tank surface simulators shall be addressed. Suppliers shall discuss the costimpact of expediting deliveries. FOB point for the delivery of the items involved in this RFI is Glenn Research Center inCleveland Ohio. NASA would like to have the propellant tank surface simulators stored offsite until required for fabrication of the TD01 and TD02 test articles.This document is for information and planning purposes and to allow industry theopportunity to verify reasonableness and feasibility of the requirement, as well aspromote competition. Prospective offerors are invited to submit written comments orquestions in digital format to the email address of the Test Facility Manager identifiedbelow, no later than July 3, 2008.
