Description
The National Institutes of Health, Office of Science Policy, Office of Science Education has a requirement for the development of two science curriculum supplements. Each of these is a teacher’s guide to a week’s worth of lessons on the following science topics. One curriculum supplement will be on evolution in medicine for high school general biology classes, and the other on the study of rare diseases for grades 5-7 science classes. The period of performance is two years. The core of each supplement will be a sequential set of lessons that 1) easily fit into five, 45-minute class periods and 2) integrate into topics commonly studied in general high school biology (Evolution) or grades 5-7 science (Rare Diseases) classes nationwide. Laboratory and computer-based activities may be used when they will enhance students’ learning experience. However, all computer-based activities must have a paper-and-pencil alternative. The supplements must comply with the National Science Education Standards (www.nap.edu/readingroom/books/nses). The format must be consistent with existing NIH curriculum supplements (science.education.nih.gov/supplements) and comply with OSE Style Guide (science.education.nih.gov/supplements/styleguide). The offer will use plain English in the scientific background materials for teachers. All language used in the student activities must be appropriate for reading at that grade level. NIH intends to print the materials and make them freely available for educational use. NIH will allow free access to all online materials developed under this contract. The materials will not be used by any organization or business for sale or profit. All materials developed for the curriculum supplements must be in two formats, Print- and Web- ready. All content regardless of format on all Web pages must be in compliance with Section 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (1998). Solicitations will be issued on or about July 8, 2008. The RFP, amendments, and questions related to this procurement shall be available via http://www.Fedbizopps.gov. Offerors are responsible for accessing the website. At this time no written solicitation is available. Telephone request shall not be honored. Offerors proposals will be evaluated on meeting the needs of the requirement. The Government reserves the right to make an award to the best advantage of the Government, cost and other factors considered.
