- Questions and Answers for RFI0008 – MPRS PODS RFI As of 1 July 2008 1. 16 June 2008 Question: There are two different response dates noted (30 June and 9 July). The upper right of the page states the 9 July date. Can you please tell me which is the correct date, or clarify if different submittal types are expected on each date? Answer: The due date for all material is 9 July 2008. 2. 25 June 2008 Question: Is it the Governments intent that only the MPRS pods be replaced (utilizing the existing MPRS pylons with the new Pods)? Answer: Our intent is to provide our war fighters with the most cost effective system possible; while this may require a new pylon to satisfy the pod to aircraft interface, the new pods/pylons should not require any structural modifications to the aircraft for installation. 3. 26 June 2008 Question: The RFI states the need of MPRS Pods on 20 KC-135R aircraft. a. Should I assume 2 Pods/aircraft? b.The RFI does not ask for spares, so should I assume 10%? Or does the program require a number of spares? Answer: a.Yes, there are 2 pods per aircraft. b.The program office is considering requiring 6 spare pods for a total of 46; however, the RFI requests “proof of logistics support – parts supply, spares, repair, support equipment and tech data”, where we are looking for suppliers recommendations on the number of required spare parts and pods. 4. 26 June 2008 Question: Could not find a time span/need date/schedule for the MPRS. Could you provide critical USAF needs dates such as 1st unit delivery date and time span, developmental/operation/cert test start, quantity needed per year? Answer: There is no defined schedule. The RFI requests that responses address anticipated delivery schedule and product availability in order to help us determine a realistic fielding schedule. 5. 26 June 2008 Question: Flight Certification: does the program require FAA certification (as KC-X requires) or military certification instead? Answer: Military certification. 6. 26 June 2008 Question: Would a KC-135R be made available (at not charge, or if chargeable, at what rate) to perform DT/OT and certification flight testing of pylon/aircraft/pod system. Answer: The program office is interested in identifying Commercial –Off-The-Shelf (COTS) or Non-Developmental Item (NDI) equipment that can be adapted for use on the KC-135, therefore developmental testing should be minimal; but at this time we are only looking for suppliers to provide estimates of how much testing would be required. The costs associated with the aircraft to be used for testing does not need to be considered in these estimates.
