- The National Cancer Institute (NCI) plans to procure services for expansion in the Ghana Prostate Cancer Survey with the University of Ghana Medical School; College of Health Sciences; Department of Surgery; P.O. Box 4236; Accra, Ghana. The supplies are herein are being procured in accordance with the simplified acquisition procedures authorized by FAR Part 13.106-(b) (1). The North American Industry Classification System Code is 541711 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The purpose of the Ghana study is to assess the burden of prostate cancer in Africans. The NCI Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics has conducted a population-based screening of prostate cancer in Accra, Ghana. This procurement is to provide support for case expansion, including an additional 300-500 prostate cancer cases to enhance the statistical power of the genetic susceptibility component of the Ghana Study. The field work of the study was conducted in Ghana and the list of prostate cancer cases belongs to Korle-Bu Hospital, affiliating hospital of University of Ghana. In order to access patient information for case recruitment, and to continue with the current study, in progress, the NCI must continue to screen and investigate prostate cancer in this region. Contractor shall perform the following: •Maintain a study office to coordinate case identification and recruitment •Identify eligible cases from 2005 to July 2009 •Maintain a list of study subjects •Contact and recruit eligible cases •Prepare and cut 20-30 pathology slides, depending on the availability, from each cancer case. Record block and specimen ID for each slide The University of Ghana is the only source known to the NCI that has been involved in the Ghana Study since 2004. Data from this study must remain consistent. Changing variables at this time will interrupt correct interpretation of the study in progress. Period of Performance: August 10, 2008 through August 9, 2009. This is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow the researcher to determine if the party can meet this requirement. One (1) original and one (1) copy of the capability statement must be received in the contracting office by 11: 00 a.m. ET on July 15, 2008. It is the vendor’s responsibility to ensure questions have been received. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted. In order to receive an award, contractor must have valid, updated registration and certification in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) and the Online Representations and Certifications Application (ORCA).
