MCCLELLAN BUTTE TRAIL #1015, MIDDLE FORK TRAIL #1003, & IRA SPRING TRAIL #1038: This project involves the relocation of 1.2 km of non-motorized, multiple-use trail near the bottom of McClellan Butte. Work includes clearing, grubbing, and excavation. Trail construction will include the construction of a variety of drainage structures and switchbacks. Blasting may be necessary. The entire project is located in the South Fork Snoqualmie River drainage, I-90 Corridor, and is outside of designated wilderness. Wildlife seasonal restrictions are listed in Section H. Motorized trail construction equipment will be allowed as listed in Section H. This project also involves graveling at the top of McClellan Butte Trail, the Ira Spring Trail, and the Middle Fork Trail. McClellan Butte Trail: This project is located on the Snoqualmie Ranger District (North Bend Area) on the Mount Baker National Forest. To reach the McClellan Butte Trail from the Seattle Area, take I-90 east to Exit 42 (Tinkham Road #55). Turn right on the FSR #55. Follow FSR #55 approximately 1/4 mile to the turn off to the McClellan Butte Trailhead. Turn right, the trail begins near the outhouse on the western edge of the trailhead. Work begins at Station 1+753 and continues to the Garcia Road (FSR 9020). The top of the relocation can be accessed via I-90, Exit #38 and FSR #9030. Ira Spring Trail: From the Seattle Area, take I-90 east to Exit 45, turn left under the freeway. Follow FSR #9030 ½ mile to the junction with FSR #9031. Stay left (straight) and continue 2 ½ miles to the Ira Spring Trailhead. Hike the trail 4.1 km to work site (near the 5th switchback corner from the trailhead). Middle Fork Trail: The trailhead is approximately 12 miles north of the town of North Bend, Washington, in the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River Valley. Drive I-90 east to Seattle or Bellevue to exit 34. Turn left, travel ¼ mile to the Middle Fork Road. Turn right, continue to the “Y” and stay right. The beginning of this project is located approximately 9 miles up the Middle Fork Road (FSR #56). Park at the Middle Fork Trailhead and hike to the beginning of the project. Gravel installation sites are spread out between the ½ mile point and the 8.4 mile point. The trail can also be accessed at the 6.0 mile point at the Dingford Creek/Dutch Miller Gap Trailhead. Work is anticipated to begin on or about August 6, 2008. This project is 100% set aside for small business. The Government’s estimate is between $25,000 and $100,000.
