- Description
- VA National Center for PTSD6/23/2008 Project: Usability Report of the NCPTSD Website DESCRIPTION OF WORK The National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is seeking an analysis and executive report about the effectiveness of our extensive educational Website http://www.ncptsd.va.gov. Since 1995 the website has grown to be an invaluable source of information on traumatic stress for millions of people. We pride ourselves on being the "go-to" source for the latest research and best clinical practices available in the field. The proposed review will allow the Center to evaluate what our varied audiences want, do we have it on our website, and if we do have it can the audience find it. The contractor will perform a website review to include usability testing as well as focus group interviews of 5-10 users from each main audience group: veterans with PTSD; general public, including civilians with non-combat trauma and family members of veterans with PTSD; VA clinicians who treat PTSD, and researchers with an interest in PTSD. The National Center for PTSD will supply an education specialist to work with the contractor to establish representative scenarios and other evaluation criteria. The Education Specialist will assist the contractor to identify the profile of users from each main audience group. The contractor will supply a final executive report on the Center's website based on analyses as specified below. Work Required: "Expert analysis of Website (www.ncptsd.va.gov) layout and design "Inspection evaluation by usability experts to identify key goals "Usability testing: Assemble and manage 4 user groups to analyze how effectively the goals identified are being achieved. We estimate each user group to involve 5-10 users and the groups include: veterans with PTSD general public, including civilians with non-combat trauma and family members of veterans with PTSD, VA clinicians who treat PTSD, and researchers with an interest in PTSD "Syntheses of both qualitative observation and quantitative data "Generate an Executive Report with critiques and suggestions on how to improve the Center's Website DELIVERABLES: The contractor will create a usability report with suggested improvements to layout, design, navigation and search functionality. The report will contain detailed information on how the conclusions were reached and will recommend specific recommendations to improve usability of the web site. SKILLS NEEDED The contractor needs to be proficient in Website usability testing. The contractor should be familiar with the following programs that are used on our current Website: "Java 5.0 or later "Tomcat- version 5.5 "Apache "Struts version 1framework and code "MySQL 4.0 databases "CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), html, java scripts The contractor needs to be familiar with the size and scope of the National Centers extensive Website, the various audiences we serve, the site map, etc. Our site contains over 1000 pages, dozens of videos, fact sheets, manuals, handouts, assessment information and more.
