Description
Requirement for Relocation of Two Civil War Era Cannons 1.0 Description of Requirement: The Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) require the services of a Contractor for the relocation of two (2) civil war era bronze Napoleon guns, each mounted in bronze cradles and bolted to granite base. The cannons are located on concrete pads in front of building 661 Sheppard place, Fort Eustis, VA 23604 and will be removed and relocated to 709 Ward Drive, in front of building 1990, Scott Air Force Base (AFB) Illinois, 62225. 1.2 Delivery of Cannons to Scott AFB: The Contractor shall be required to relocate the Cannons within 14 days of contract award. 1.3 The following is a brief description of Cannons Specifications and Dimensions: 1.1.1 Name: Bronze Napoleon Guns, 12 Pounds, Civil War 1.1.2 Foundry: Revere Copper Co., Boston, Mass 1.1.3 Cast Year: 1862 and 1863 1.1.4 Weight Cannons Only: 1274 and 1279 pounds 1.1.5 Bronze Cradle Weight Each: Approximately 250 Pounds 1.1.6 Granite Base Weight Each: Approximately 4000 Pounds 1.1.7 Additional dimensions and specifications can be provided for informational purposes. 1.2 Specific Requirement: The Contractor shall provide all manpower, necessary tools, materials, material handling equipment and transportation assets necessary for the safe removal of two Napoleon cannons with granite base from Fort Eustis and transport to Scott AFB and remove both cannons from the transport vehicle and place in a similar manner on cement slabs in front of building 1990 at Scott AFB,IL. 1.2.1 The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to protect these historical items from weather, damage and loss throughout the relocation process. The Contractor shall fabricate pallets or cradles that will allow handling each cannon, bronze cradle and granite base as a unit. The Cannons shall not be separated from their cradles or unbolted from their granite base to facilitate movement. The cannons shall be protected from potential scarring from the use of lashing gear used to secure the units to the transport vehicle. 1.3. Damage to Concrete Pads to Facilitate Movement: The Contractor shall be permitted if necessary to chip and crack the concrete pads located at Fort Eustis, to gain clearance for the lifting of the Cannons as a unit.
