- Description
- The Federal Highway Administration plans to award a sole source purchase order to the Highway Safety Research Center (HRSC) in conjunction with the University of North Carolina (UNC) to administer, maintain, and update the USLIMITS web-based 2.0 expert system for setting speed limits. USLIMITS was designed to assist practitioners in establishing appropriate speed limits in speed zones. HRSC developed the speed zoning web-based system, in addition to having the knowledge base for speed limit determination as well as having the required experience and grasp of issues with running the application on windows and Unix Servers. HRSC will also administer the web based application providing FHWA with quarterly updates on the system usage, provide technical support to users of USLMITS, conduct two web demonstration of USLIMITS for potential users with specific interest targeted to local agencies, and assist in finding a permanent host for USLIMITS2 in the transfer setup of the expert system and equipment. HRSC is the only known source who works directly with UNC that has the required knowledge of the code, underlying knowledge base, and speed zoning issued to troubleshoot all problems that may occur in addition to being the developers of the software. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is July 31, 2008.
