Description
The solicitation for this project will be posted on or about 8/8/08. PRESCRIBED BURNING THE WALLOWA-WHITMAN NATIONAL FOREST The Forest Service is acquiring services to assist with prescribed burning to reduce the threat of catastrophic wild fire by reducing fuel loading within select natural and activity created fuels units. Work shall include prescribed burning including unit preparation and holding. This includes furnishing all labor, supervision, transportation, operating supplies, and incidentals to perform all work necessary to conduct fire line construction and maintenance, prescribed burning, and holding. The Contractor shall be responsible on a unit basis for all unit preparation, lighting and holding of the burning including a 48 hour period after completion of the total unit ignition. All work performed under the contract must follow guidelines, prescriptions, and objectives stated in the unit specific burn plans. Project areas are natural and managed stands of timber of all age size, and species, shrub fields or grass areas. Fuels will consist of natural fuels and live fuels. Fuel loadings will range from less than 1 ton per acre to as high as 20 tons per acre. The work will be performed on land administered by the Wallowa Whitman National Forest. The work may take place on any of the three fire Zones of Wallowa, Burnt Powder or Grande Ronde Fire within the Wallowa Whitman National Forest. The prescribed burning season on the Wallowa Whitman National Forest for under story burning is normally, between March and the early part of June for spring burning, and from the latter part of September through October for fall burning. Major control problems can occur during a period of weather frontal passage and strong wind conditions. Close attention to weather forecasts and securing and patrolling of previously burned units is common practice to eliminate any escaped fires. For technical questions about this project please contact the Contracting Officer’s Representative, Jeff Jenkins at 541-426-5594 at the Wallowa-Mountains Office in Enterprise, OR.
