Description
Project Title: Opeechee Park Thinning Description of Work: The Custer National Forest intends to issue a solicitation to secure services for the removal of the damaged merchantable trees that are either standing or on the ground as a result of the late season storm damage of 2008. This will be followed by a mechanical mastication of the damaged non-merchantable trees that are either standing or on the ground also as a result of the late season storm. The trees to be removed and the definition of merchantable and non-merchantable material will be outlined in the contract specifications and will be applied across the 78 acres. Location: The Opeechee Park Thinning project is located on the Custer National Forest, Sioux Ranger District - 101 SE First Street, Camp Crook, SD. The project area is located in the Ekalaka Hills land unit approximately 5 miles SE from Ekalaka, Montana off of the Opeechee Park Road (T2N, R59E, Sec 31; T1N, R58E, Sec 01; T1N, R58E, Sec 12). Forest Road #3101 is the road access to the project area. Project area maps are available at the Sioux Ranger Station. Additional Information: Work includes removal of damaged merchantable ponderosa pine trees and decking the entire tree within a specified log landing. The remaining damaged timbers will be masticated to increase the rate of decomposition and reduce the threat of wildfire. Work will be done on undulating terrain with average slopes ranging from 0– 42%. Ground conditions are variable and may contain surface and below surface rock, stumps, logs and other debris which will vary in size, density and depth. Pre-bid Tour: A pre-bid showing is scheduled for interested bidders on 4 August 2008 at 10:00 a.m., Mountain Standard Time. Please call Jason McGaughey or Robert Cordell at (605) 797-4432 by 2 August 2008 or earlier if you plan to attend. A firm-fixed price contract is expected to result from this solicitation. Price Range: $50,000 to 100,000. The solicitiation will be available on approximately 8 August 2008.
