- The proposed acquisition is to provide Dell hardware/software/services to support the Virtualization Readiness Assessment (VRA) at the NPS. The new Dell hardware and software to be purchased will be added to the existing Dell hardware and software already in production. NPS personnel are already trained on the Dell hardware and software including basic training on the virtualization software and installation. Hardware/Software Configuration:1 - Upgrade of CX3-20 to CX3-805 - Disk array enclosure for CX3-804 PowerEdge R900, 2x Quad Core E7330 Xeon, 2.4 Ghz, 6M Cache 80W4 Quad Core Xeon E5450 Processor 2x 6MB Cache, 3.0 Ghz2 VI3 Standard-2 socket license To include ESX SMP VC Agent HA Updated ManagerServices: The VRA is required to determine server virtualization opportunities of existing Naval Postgraduate Schools Information Technology Infrastructure for transition to a virtual environment. The VRA must investigate up to 200 real/physical servers performance data, assess and model the servers in order to determine an alternative high-level design using a virtual infrastructure. Vendor must provide personnel to install any required equipment and software required to conduct the VRA. Vendor must also assess data collected and provide NPS with a report of individual server suitability for transition to the virtual infrastructure. The following deliverables are required:Inventory Report, utilization assessment and candidates for virtualizationVirtualization guidelines and potential consolidation scenariosPreliminary Total Cost of Ownership analysis for the servers sampled during the VRARecommendations and next steps to move samples servers to a virtual infrastructureOn-Sight Engineer Naval Postgraduate School requires on-sight engineering services to provide knowledge, skills and abilities to perform task expected of a VMware engineer to:Assist validating the business objectives for a virtualization solutionAssist in determining virtualization candidates, explore various design options and develop a plan for deployment and operation of a virtual infrastructureProvide a high level system design document Demonstrate virtualized servers in a pre-production pilotInstall and configure ESX Server and virtual machines in a pilot environmentProvide assistance to understand and utilize capabilities of VMware ESX Server and Virtual MachinesAssist with planning and build out of virtualization solution Assist in understanding of capabilities of VirtualCenter in conjunction with VMware ESX or GSX serverConfigure VMotion and demonstrate functionalityInstall and configure VirtualCenter Assist with migration of physical servers to virtual machinesAssist with the use of physical to virtual transition toolsDeliver white papers, best practices or other references relevant to the technology
